Improvement in Mental Health

For most of my life I've had a serious mental illness. In the past few months I've made a lot of progress in overcoming that serious mental illness. My only symptoms are intrusive, repetitive thoughts and occasional short bouts of depression. When I'm at home and by myself, I sometimes say the thoughts out loud, usually in a loud voice. The thoughts don't bother me when I'm working.

On Canada's 150th birthday, July 1, 2017, I started a new computer project called Jovelyst. Working on that project keeps me busy. Jovelyst uses identical code to an earlier project which has since been abandoned. I also have 5 ways of dealing with leisure time: every day I read the news at cbc.ca, sometimes I read the news at msn.com, last month I began a subscription to a daily science newsletter called Big Think, my Android smartphone supplies me with articles to read every day, and I sometimes read the questions/answers on Quora.com. I will probably continue getting depressed from time to time. The depressions last between half a day and 3 days.

I live healthier by exercising about 5 times a week, going for a brisk 30-minute walk. I used to eat more frozen food but I've recently cut down to 2 frozen dinners every 8 to 11 days (not counting the occasional pizza pop). Sometimes I eat fruit and salad. A year ago I made friends with a woman I met on a dating site for people with mental health issues (we are just friends). I have 2 friends who are guys: Main and Max, who are both from Third World countries. My childhood friend John Newell and another close friend named Tsehay both live in Southwestern Ontario. I visit my brother about once a month and keep in touch with my sister in Victoria using email. My psychiatrist monitors my meds and I see him once every 8 weeks. I don't experience any side effects and I'm in good physical health.

More Improvement

My previous post was written 2 months ago. One month ago I stopped doing the crazy talking. Around that time I upped my daily walks from 30 to 50 minutes. Three weeks ago I went on vacation for 12 days. Prior to that I had a daily routine. Next week I plan to resume my routine, which involves working on my software project almost every day. This evening I opened up my code editor for the first time since I went on my vacation. Having a daily routine and exercising is very important in order to avoid boredom and depression. Also having a life goal, in my case finishing my software project, improves morale.
